atomic waste is a waste product containing radioactive material. It is usually the product of a nuclear process such as nuclear fission.
radio active material contains unstable (radioactive) atoms that give off (ionizing) radiation as they decay. One of the genetic effects of radiation includes an increased cancer risk.
