APN's Newspapers in Education (NiE) programme is a free, multi-media education programme dedicated to helping educate and develop informed, socially-aware youth across New Zealand. NiE promotes student literacy and analysis of the news and media, while encouraging effective use of newspapers in the classroom.
The programme offers NiE pages published both in print and as e-Editions, during school term times in eight APN newspapers, online teacher resources contained within this website, printed teacher resource manuals, topical ten-day studies and resources, and the annual Design the Front Page of the Newspaper Competition.
Purpose-written by former-teachers, NiE pages are published on a Tuesday each week during term times in eight APN daily newspapers offering both a dynamic classroom resource for teachers, and a useful home-schooling tool for parents.
Pages contain up-to-the minute information on current affairs and a wide range of learning areas. They help develop a variety of skills and thinking competencies and link to The New Zealand Curriculum objectives.
NiE pages cover 4 different levels, each aimed at the corresponding curriculum level. Click on the following links to sample NiE pages and take a look at the 2010 Page Theme calendar for NiE page themes and dates.
