This week’s NiE X-Press page, published on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 looks at e-Learning and cyber safety.

Schools and teachers will be familiar with e-Learning in classrooms to various degrees. Many students use ICT as an extension of themselves, having being born into a time where technology is part of their everyday life.

This NiE page asks students to reflect on how e-Learning has allowed learning to take place well beyond the school grounds.  The page can be used as a springboard to explore different learning tools – both technological and non-technological tools, and what personal experience students have with using and evaluating them.

Students are referred to a website where they can find tips on cyber safety.  You can turn this into an activity by asking students to draw up a contract between themselves and their school/teacher/parents about how they will protect themselves online.

More information and teaching suggestions can be found under the More information tab on the left-hand menu.
