This week’s NiE NewsSplash page is about caring for pets. Pet and animals is a popular theme to learn about: responsibility, what living things need, people who work with animals, why we have pets, which animals are suitable pets and which ones are not. You can use the page as a starting point before exploring these areas in greater detail.
There are often stories in the news about animals – either issues such as whether to cull wild kaimanawa horses, or whether sow crates should be allowed, to softer animal stories used to balance out the harder hitting news articles. Students could keep a clipping file of animals in the news and discuss the key points made.
